I was in doubt if the construction would work. Starting the increases 3 inches past the toe? It seemed like either the foot would be way too short or way too big around, but, miraculously, it's turned out to be exactly the right length and width! I guess the key words here are "Trust the pattern", because it totally worked!

Even though you can't see from the picture, I'm knitting both socks at the same time. It's been a challenge, because of the shifting that has to happen before and after the heel, but now that I'm on the leg, it's going well.

I'm not sure what I think of the pink and purple striping, but I'll certainly keep going with it!

This sock makes me excited to try some of the other Cat Bordhi constructions!!

Details on Flickr or Ravelry.Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14296324634215892137noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1971558320770063571.post-30037777344338840612007-12-26T19:28:00.000-08:002007-12-26T19:36:36.259-08:00Wet owl has arrrivedI just got my Goblet of Fire yarn...yay! I got my owl!! of course it is gorgeous! I also got the Sirus Black socks done but forgot to take a pic before they got wrapped in my DD Christmas jammies package. I will hopefully remember to get a picture this evening when she opens them

Merry Christmas Everyone!!
LorettaLorettahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13607873532612834853noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1971558320770063571.post-814148231196593392007-12-23T03:51:00.000-08:002007-12-23T04:10:05.436-08:00Different Sockitechture for POA socks?Hello! I'm up this early 'cause I can't stop thinking about socks! XD

I'm nearly done my last pair of Christmas present socks (just gotta' BO the other side of the cuffs and sew in about.... 9 ends total on all the gifts- not bad, really) and I've been thinking for a while about how I want to work these Sirius socks.

I was very lucky to pick up Cat Bhordi's book at the end last month, and have been wanting to cast on just about anything from that book. I'm currently working on the little sky learning sock, which will be my first ever cuff-down sock.

Considering that this particular sock has a pattern down the side, I'd have to re-distribute the stitches on my circs to get the pattern just right, and yadda, yadda, yadda. That in and of itself almost seems intimidating, as I've never had to do that before.

So, the end question is this: do I modify Bartholemew's Tantalizing Socks with the Sirius pattern? Or not? (The pads at the bottom of the sock confuzzled me at first- I didn't realize they went on the bottom!) Thanks! :D
Rowena Butterbeerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13195461786889385153noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1971558320770063571.post-80655842644869628202007-12-13T07:58:00.000-08:002007-12-13T08:00:06.711-08:00Raffle Winner ????When is the winner going to be announced? My DD loves these socks and has claimed them for herself. They are sooooo soft!!! I hope to have them done by next weekend. However they are going in the box with her Christmas PJ's!

Have a great weekend & btw I can't wait for this months owl!
LorettaLorettahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13607873532612834853noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1971558320770063571.post-69797991526587127362007-11-20T08:51:00.000-08:002007-11-20T09:03:53.547-08:00... WARNING OWL CRASH LANDING... SINGLE SURVIVOR... Yes my OWL CRASH LANDED! The only survivor was the pattern and the to my dismayyyy the yarn has gone missing with NO HOPES of recovery. Rescue workers have no further leads.

It seems like the flap on the envelope did not stay closed and was lifted up, so the yarn slipped out and the pattern was able to hang on. Talk about an excitement crusher!!!! I went from elated running to the mail slot to dispair when I got closer and noticed the flat envelope and then picked up (extremely light) and found the torn and mutilated flap of the envelope just listlessly dangling... a very traumatic moment to say the least...

I contacted loops suggesting that the flaps be taped down for a more security in keeping their precious cargo secured during the flight...

The pattern is very sweet! So now I have to start thinking of magical yarn that is worthy of the pattern...

I am off to sulk for a bit in the magical archives of yarn...infinityexplorerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16515367920987335690noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1971558320770063571.post-14429126615899749032007-11-20T08:42:00.000-08:002007-11-20T08:47:50.599-08:00I'm in loveThe PoA colors are AMAZING. It's the kind of colorway I wouldn't be able to leave a yarn store without buying. And the bamboo is so soft and smooth. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of socks it makes. Never used a bamboo blend before.

The pattern is also really neat looking. Love the little pads of the soles :)

I'm working on the leg of the last Heir of Slytherin Coriolis, so I should be able to start the Sirius Socks right after. The pattern that came with the CoS yarn was needing too much tweeking to fit my crazy rectangle feet with super high instep, so what I'm making is the spiraling coriolis from the original Cat Bhordi book...I think I messed that up too, but I like what I did. The yarn is cozy warm.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1971558320770063571.post-25858338511145533312007-11-20T07:44:00.000-08:002007-11-20T07:48:58.349-08:00Incredible!!My package was waiting for me when I arrived home yesterday and all I can say is WOW!!! Yarn's all ready and patterns, too. Call up the postman and whoopee-doo! They'll be shipping out Saturday, so expect arrivals starting Monday. As you know, this shipment will be in the Bamboo blend. I need to order more yarn, so I'd love feedback on it. Wind it up and check it out and please take this survey. Looks like you have to click over to the blog itself to access the polls if you're like me and are married to Bloglines.

Every vote gets you an entry into a raffle for yarny goodness!! Step right up and cast your vote!!
